Is it safe?

Yes, our whitening blue light LEDs are completely safe to use and help to increase the rate at which whitening occurs.

How does teeth whitening work?

In spite of the plethora of products that are available on the market. All of them make use of either of these 2 methods to facilitate whiter teeth:

  1. Chemical Action — Products that employ a chemical action of whitening make use of bleach to chemically remove stains on teeth. Typically bleach is used in whitening trays , gels or strips
  2. Physical Action — Products that employ abrasives (as found in toothpastes) to physically scrape the stains off of your teeth. These products are typically whitening toothpastes that aid in the physical removal of stains

So with these 2 methods of whitening in mind, I say let there be light! Light you say? How does that work? Well, light is used to facilitate the chemical reactions that gel based or whitening strip products use. The whitening solution in these products react chemically to light which produces the chemical reaction that provides whiter teeth. Here are the two methods that light based whitening systems use:

How do LED Blue Lights Work?

Before we answer the question as to whether or not blue light LEDs work, we need to understand how teeth whitening works. Teeth can be whitened using a hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide solution (let’s call it a bleaching solution). The oxygen molecules in the peroxide solution stick onto the teeth, allowing for the teeth to whiten and for stains to be lifted off of your teeth. LEDs or Light Emitting Diodes emit light at a wavelength characteristic for blue light. The purpose of these lights help to catalyze the reaction, which helps to increase the rate which the oxygen molecules interact with your teeth, thus allowing for whiter teeth.

Does light treatment whitening actually work?

Teeth light whitening methods researched by both the Journal of American Dental Association as well an independent study from the American Chemical Society revealed that LED teeth whitening lights provide results for a whiter smile.
